Everything We Saw at the 128th :
The 128th Ooty Flower Show 2026 was everything the Nilgiris promised — and more. Held at the
iconic Government Botanical Garden in Ooty from 16 to 28 May 2026, this year’s edition drew
thousands of visitors from across Tamil Nadu and beyond. We were there on the ground, and these
are our first-hand photos and impressions of one of South India’s most spectacular annual flower
festivals.
The Flower Goddess — Carnations, Roses & Chrysanthemums:
One of the most photographed pieces this year was a life-size goddess figure dressed entirely in
flowers — red and white roses forming the saree, pale yellow carnations covering the blouse, and
white chrysanthemums layered at the hem. The craftsmanship was extraordinary, with thousands of
individual blooms arranged by colour to create depth and shading. This single installation captures
exactly why people travel hours to attend the Ooty flower show every May.
The Rose Tower — A 15-Foot Column of Red and White Roses :
Towering over the central lawn, a striking spiral column built from alternating bands of deep red and
ivory white roses reached nearly 15 feet into the misty Ooty sky. Crowds gathered around it
throughout the day — it was impossible to miss and even harder not to photograph. This kind of
large-scale installation is unique to the Ooty flower show and represents months of preparation by
the horticulture department.
The Flower Temple — Thousands of Blooms, One Structure :
A traditional South Indian temple gopuram recreated entirely in red roses and white
chrysanthemums was one of the most ambitious installations of the 2026 show. Multiple tiers of
blooms built up into a tiered temple tower, with yellow accents at the base and finishing details in
pink. This is the kind of cultural artistry that makes the Ooty flower show unlike any other event in
Tamil Nadu.
The Madras High Court Replica — The Show's Most Ambitious Piece :
Without doubt the conversation piece of the entire show — a large-scale replica of the Madras High
Court building, every wall, window arch, clock tower and turret covered in red roses and cream
carnations. The level of detail was astonishing. Even the clock face on the tower was recreated in
flowers. Visitors stood in front of it for extended periods, taking in the scale of the work. If you visit
the Ooty flower show and see only one installation, make it this one.
The Garden Displays: Colour That Stops You in Your Tracks :
Beyond the sculptures, the ground-level flower displays inside the Government Botanical Garden
were equally stunning. The horticulture department arranged thousands of potted plants and cut
flowers into intricate geometric patterns across the garden’s terraced lawns.
The Hydrangea Close-Up — Ooty's Signature Bloom :
Ooty is one of the few places in India where hydrangeas grow naturally, and the flower show
celebrates them prominently. The pale lavender-pink hydrangea heads at this year’s show were in
full bloom — each cluster a perfect sphere of delicate petals, surrounded by a background of orange
and yellow flowers that made the colour pop. If you have been wondering what flowers are famous
in Ooty, the hydrangea is at the top of the list.
The Rose Garden Zone: Birds of Paradise & Rare Varieties :
One section of the 2026 show was dedicated entirely to the Government Rose Garden experience
— with a ‘Bird’s Paradise’ floral lettering installation made from white and burgundy flowers, flanked
by two swans crafted from cream blooms. This area was particularly popular with families for
photos.
The rose collection at this year’s show also featured some exceptional specimens — including a
peach-orange climbing rose variety that is rarely seen at public shows. The blooms were full and
deeply fragrant, and the rose section gave visitors a glimpse into the extraordinary range of varieties

that thrive in Ooty’s cool climate. The Government Botanical Garden maintains over 2,000 varieties
of roses — many of which were on display during the show.
Planning Your Visit: What You Need to Know :
The 128th Ooty Flower Show ran from 16 May to 28 May 2026 at the Government Botanical Garden
on Garden Road, Ooty. It is organised annually by the Horticulture Department of the Nilgiris
District. Entry is ticketed and the garden gets extremely crowded during the first weekend and the
closing days — plan to arrive before 9 AM for the best experience and the fewest crowds around the
sculptures.
